Las Animas-Bent County Library will be having a pumpkin contest October 22-October 31, 2012. Kids of all ages bring your carved, decorated or painted pumpkins to the Las Animas-Bent County District Library for judging by our partrons. First, second and thirs place winners will be announced on November 2, 2012.

Bent Conservation District will be sponsoring a workshop on issues brought on by the drought. Speakers for the event will be:
Brian Bledsoe, KKTV 11 Weather, will talk about the weather outlook for the next few years.
Garrett Godfrey, First National Bank, will talk about some of the financial decisions producers will be facing.
Donna Davis, U.S. Forest Service, will talk about what trees need to survive in the drought and drought-resistant varieties of trees for the area.
Bruce Fickensher, Eads Extension Agency, will speak on nitrates in feed due to the drought and potential cattle deaths due to the nitrates.
J.C. Carrica, SE Mental Health Association, will speak on handling stress.
The FREE Workshop will be held at the Las Animas Museum Upstairs in the Event Room at Hwy. 50 and 6th Street (at the light) from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on October 5th, 2012. There will be information for everyone in the area and all the public is invited. There will be refreshments and door prizes of certificates for trees.
