15th Annual Colorado Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month

Using Social Media to Tell Your Story will be May 8, 2012 from 10:00a.m. – 1:00p.m.  Earlybird price is $30.00 and the price after May 1, 2012 will be $40.00.  This event will be held at Oter Junior College (1802 Colorado Avenue, La Junta, CO  81050) at the Student Center in the Banquet Room. 

What is your story?  Stories are an effective way to engage an audience and inspire action. Storytelling is a powerful communication tool that can make people feel emotionally connected in helping your organization achieve its goals.  Stories are much more memorable than statistics or simple information.  Strong stories can be told and retold.  They become infectious and become part of the community memory.  Using social media is an opportunity to not only tell your story but also to include your stakeholders as an enticing part of that story.

In this session, we will:

• Break down the elements of a good story
• Identify the types of stories that can help increase your impact
• Provide an overview of social media tools
• Review how to integrate your stories into social media opportunities

9 Health Fair Details

We are currently soliciting presentations.  If you are interested in presenting, please let me know at darceekillpack@nps.gov.  We have a few speakers lined up, but we need more!  We are looking for all topics; nothing is too small or too big!

We are also scheduling free training events the day before May 3rd at the college.  Details are being finalized, but we have two events planned.  ESRI will be offering ArcGIS online and community mapping and CompassTools will be offering field data collection and different types of mobile collection devices.  To increase our historical knowledge in addition to our GIS knowledge, we are also scheduling a tour of one of the local national parks, Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site.

So plan on coming down on Thursday May 3rd for some training and field trips, in addition to a full day of presentations on Friday.

We will also be sending out more details on a hotel room block and the Board meeting on the 3rd, so stay tuned.

Due to the catering for this event (breakfast and lunch will be provided) we need to have an accurate count of attendees.  So please RSVP to either Darcee Killpack (darceekillpack@nps.gov) or Rich Chamberlain (richchamberlain@urscorp.com) no later than April 23rd if you will be attending.
